Edwards Kirby secured 4 of the Top 15 Personal Injury Verdicts in the state of North Carolina in 2019, according to a recent listing published by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. That includes the largest personal injury recovery in the state last year, as well as 3 of the top 4 personal injury results.
Lawyers Weekly is a leading legal publication that publishes its annual Top Verdicts & Settlements list profiling the largest case results from throughout the state during the previous year. According to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, the 2019 list was the largest ever compiled, and competition was fierce – all of the Top 50 results included among the Top Verdicts & Settlements list exceeded $1M.

- #1 Result ($15M) – Founding Partner John Edwards, along with Co-Counsel Wade Byrd and Mark Hockman of Fayetteville, recovered the largest personal injury verdict in the state of North Carolina in 2019. The $15 million settlement was obtained on behalf of a mother whose newborn daughter suffered severe respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, and brain damage after a licensed practical nurse failed to properly replace her breathing tube.
- #2 Result ($13M) – Edwards Kirby obtained the second largest verdict / settlement in the state of North Carolina last year with a $13 million settlement for a child who suffered a brain injury after he was given a massive overdose of dextrose during an intravenous treatment.
- #4 Result ($9.45M) – The fourth largest result secured last year was a $9.45 million settlement in an Edwards Kirby case where a family of four was tragically killed after a tanker truck crashed into the back of their vehicle.
- #15 Result ($2.69M) – Edwards Kirby also obtained a $2.69 million recovery for a father who died saving his daughter’s life following a multi-vehicle tractor-trailer crash on Interstate-95.
