Our legal team at Edwards Kirby is proud to show our support for Medical Malpractice Awareness Month!
A campaign organized by the National Medical Malpractice Advocacy Association (NMMAA), Medical Malpractice Month raises awareness about the devastating toll of medical negligence, and rallies support for solutions that improve the quality of U.S. health care.
Throughout the month of July, the NMMAA and its supporters engage in outreach efforts, collaborate with medical experts, and promote helpful resources online. The month-long observance provides an opportunity to educate the public about the seriousness of medical negligence, and the struggles victims often face in their fight for justice.

The Third Leading Cause of Death
During a time when America continues to fight a national health crisis, Medical Malpractice Awareness Month provides a reminder that patients still deserve to receive care that meets accepted standards.
While doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other health care providers are obligated to provide acceptable care, statistics show that is not always what patients receive.
According to one study from Johns Hopkins, medical negligence accounts for roughly 250,000 deaths each year in the U.S. Although some estimates suggest that number may be higher, medical errors are still the third leading cause of death in America.
A Proven Medical Malpractice Team
Edwards Kirby is helmed by two of the nation’s most respected trial lawyers – former U.S. Senator John Edwards and David Kirby. Under their leadership, our firm has helped victims in a range of serious injury and wrongful death cases, including many complex claims involving medical malpractice and birth injury.
Over the years, we’ve leveraged our experience and resources to help clients prevail in legal battles against major health care systems, hospitals, doctors, and other health care providers who failed to uphold their duty of care.
Our results include millions in compensation for medical negligence victims – as well as:
- The North Carolina record for the largest medical malpractice verdict in state history.
- The two largest personal injury awards recovered in North Carolina in 2019 (both were medical malpractice cases).
- A Tier 1 Ranking in Medical Malpractice Litigation from U.S. News’ “Best Law Firms”.
Medical malpractice cases are known for their complexity, but they are not insurmountable. If you have questions about a potential case and how our firm may be able to assist you in the fight for justice, call or contact us online to request a free consultation.
