A campaign organized by the National Medical Malpractice Advocacy Association (NMMAA), Medical Malpractice Month raises awareness about the devastating toll of medical negligence, and rallies support for solutions that improve the quality of U.S. health care.

Throughout the month of July, the NMMAA and its supporters engage in outreach efforts, collaborate with medical experts, and promote helpful resources online. The month-long observance provides an opportunity to educate the public about the seriousness of medical negligence, and the struggles victims often face in their fight for justice.

The Third Leading Cause of Death

During a time when America continues to fight a national health crisis, Medical Malpractice Awareness Month provides a reminder that patients still deserve to receive care that meets accepted standards.

While doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other health care providers are obligated to provide acceptable care, statistics show that is not always what patients receive.

According to one study from Johns Hopkins, medical negligence accounts for roughly 250,000 deaths each year in the U.S. Although some estimates suggest that number may be higher, medical errors are still the third leading cause of death in America.
