NC Bar Association Selects Mary Kathryn Kurth for 2019 Leadership Academy

Mar 14, 2019

The North Carolina Bar Association is comprised of over 20,000 attorneys, judges, paralegals, and law students, and each year sifts through thousands of the best and brightest legal minds to find just 16 lawyers to participate in its hallmark Leadership Academy program. We’re pleased to announce that Edwards Kirby Attorney Mary Kathryn Kurth was one of those attorneys.

Mary Kathryn’s selection to the NCBA’s Leadership Academy Class of 2019 is a testament to her hard-earned reputation as a proven and passionate Trial Attorney, and a dedicated advocate for justice and community support efforts both in and out of the courtroom.

The qualities which have allowed her to secure millions of dollars in compensation for our firm’s clients are the very same which earned her selection to one of the NCBA’s most important initiatives.

About the Leadership Academy

Established in 2011, the NBCA Leadership Academy provides young, top attorneys throughout North Carolina with the training, tools, and resources to become effective leaders in their communities. That includes effective leadership within their legal departments, firms, and collaborative work with attorney referrals and counsel, as well as various local, state, and national organizations where lawyers are often called upon for leadership.

As an intensely interactive training program, the Leadership Academy is highly selective in the lawyers it chooses to participate. Because participants have already demonstrated proven success in their fields, the program extends beyond emphasizing matters of the law and justice system, and instead helps lawyers:

  • Identify and refine strengths and areas for personal development;
  • Cultivate leadership skills which inspire confidence, trust, effective communication, and productive team performance;
  • Improve abilities to use leadership as a means to influence change, support, and advocacy; and
  • Harness the skills they obtain and refine to “make a difference.”

Graduates of the Leadership Academy become better leaders, lawyers, and advocates in all aspects of their personal and professional lives. As a trial attorney who focuses her practice on matters of personal injury and medical malpractice, Mary Kathryn has already demonstrated her ability to resolve complex claims and secure substantial victories for her clients, and has been named a “Top 40 Under 40” attorney by the National Trial Lawyers. She’s also been an active member of many legal and local communities, including:

  • The Wake County Bar Association Public Service Committee.
  • Meredith College Paralegal Program Advisory Committee Member.
  • Coordinator of the Edenton Street United Methodist Church’s Missional Community New Bern House Service Project, which provides meals to those in need on a monthly basis.

We congratulate Mary Kathryn on being selected to the ninth annual NCBA Leadership Academy Class, and are confident it will bolster her already impressive abilities and efforts to advocate for our clients and our communities. Earlier this month, the Academy convened for its first weekend of training and activities, which you can learn more about here.
